Glad to be here!
Hello….Aloha…Howdy ya’ll! Just like most of my fellow military wife readers, I’m sure you have all lived in different areas of the country, or even different countries, and learned the various ways to say “hi” in each area. As you’ve all likely experienced also, figuring out how the locals greet each other is probably the easiest thing about the frequent relocations that military life involves. It typically also encompasses researching new schools, deciding whether to live on or off base, exploring new neighborhoods, making new friends for the kiddos as well as yourself, adjusting to your husband’s new schedule (which always seems to change with new duty stations!), and adventures with household goods and privately owned vehicle shipments. We all also know that if moving around the country every 3-5 years were the biggest challenge, our lives would be simpler. However, being a military wife and mom also involves a multitude of other experiences that some of our non-military friends, or even family members, don’t always understand. Learning how to get yourself and your children through deployments, navigating Tricare and MTF doctors, learning a new language full of acronyms, and trying to make the most of the multitude of benefits offered can be overwhelming, confusing, frustrating, and even exciting. I hope that through this blog I am able to help each of you discover new resources, understand the tips and tricks passed down by “veteran wives”, learn from mutual experiences, and even blow off steam to someone who understands. Please feel free to make any comments, suggest ideas for posts, bring up areas that you’d like to learn more about, or share knowledge that you have gained. That’s what is going to make this such a valuable resource for us all.
